Battery-powered strapping tools
Battery-powered strapping tools are the most comfortable and efficient solution for tenioning and sealing plastic strapping. All battery-powered strapping tools work according to the same principle: the teeth of the feeder wheel tension the strap and by friction weld the straps are sealed.
Amon battery-powered strapping tools there are also „hybrid tools“ available which are a mixture of manual and battery-powered strapping tools: tensioning is done manually by a lever, whereas sealing is done automatically upon push of a button. The most common tools of this class are Orgapack's OR-T 50 and Zapak's ZP-20.
There are various suppliers for battery-powered strapping tools in the market - but most of them are wholesalers. There are actually only three big, relevant manufacturers of battery-powered strapping tools: Orgapack, Fromm and Zapak. Orgapack manufactures under its own brand the OR-T tools - the newest models are OR-T 250 and OR-T 400. But they also produce the tools for other wholesalers in different colours - for example in yellow for Strapex (they call the tools STB 70 and STB 80 - but are the same than OR-T 250 and OR-T 400), for Cyklop in red colour, called CMT 250 and CHT 400, and also for Signode in black colour, called BXT2 and BXT2-19. For Signode, they have done slight modifications regarding the frame around the battery - that is why Signode BXT models can be considered as most ergonomic among all battery-powered strapping tools.
Zapak tools are ideal for starters or less frequent users as they provide good quality at outstanding cheap prices. The ZP-22 can be considered as comparable in terms of tension force, motor, battery etc. to Orgapack OR-T 250 - but with only € 1,048,-- it is somewhat € 800,-- less expensive. Even though it is a little bit less comfortable in use, this price difference makes Zapak tools quite interesting for many users.
Fromm tools are the most expensive tools, but in terms of technic and functionality according to our experience not as good as Signode BXT tools. Furthermore, several clients reported severe delivery problems and very high prices regarding spare parts. Hence, we recommend Signode BXT tools for frequent users and Zapak tools for less frequent users.
Specialist magazine LOGISTRA has done a comprehensive test of all relevant battery-powered strapping tools in the market in its October edition 2010. In the category "best quality/price ratio", LS-ZP 22 was elected winner, whereas Signode BXT2 won in the category "best technical features".
